Does your dad like tools? There are some neat ones that don't cost an arm and leg. Think of what he uses(in house and garage) and what he could use. I don't know how much money you have to spend, but you also can get a special stool so he can sit at his workbench, if he has one.
My husband also likes bath salts(some are made just for men) and soaps, etc.
Does he need anything for his car? Sometimes they have gallon buckets made up with all kinds of car care things in it. Or you could do that on your own.
Hope this helps a little anyway.

If all else fails, give him a 700 minute phone card. That way he (or your Mom) can call more often without running up their phone bill.
On the tool front, I have a wonderful stepstool toolbox I really appreciate. It stores the "around the house" tools like the hammer, a screwdriver with interchangeable bits, the power drill, a vise grip, and pipe wrench. Works great.
The screwdrivers with interchangeable bits are great stocking stuffers.

What does he like to do? how old is he? Does he travel, play a sport? Think about who he is -- he's not just your dad, he's a person. What aspects make up his personality? Does he read, or have a pet? brainstorm some ideas and write them down. You'll be surprised what you can come up with.
