I'm straight, and I'd be flattered by your compliments! My best friend is gay and I'm used to going places with him and being around lesbians. If they ask me out or something I politely decline and tell them that I'm straight, but if they just compliment me I just smile and say thanks.

How flattering it is to recieve a compliment. Compliments get you everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It's sad when people try to add hidden intentions behind a compliment. Unfortunately, this will probably never change...even talking to someone and being nice can be taken the wrong way. Who cares what people think...it's a special person who can freely give out compliments without expecting anything in return, expect maybe a "thank you".

I think complimenting people is a great characteristic in person. I am a straight woman, I compliment my friends all the time, on there appereance, clothes, anything I think looks nice. Or sometimes just to make there day.

I think its really nice of you to go out there and tell people something positive about themselves straight or gay Its always nice to hear something good about yourself. For those that take it as a pick-up well screw'em thats just being over sensitive and dont deserve the compliment than!

Ok I didn't know you were. But, yes, I do think people can be overly ego centric and take my compliments another way

So funny that you should say this, as I am heterosexual and visiting this group for the first time today. In my real life I am very sociable. I find that many people mistake my kindness for interest...men and women. It is so obvious, that my friends laugh about it and tell me that I should wear a sign that says taken...LOL
