There are mathematical concepts out there that enables us to understand certain facts, or calculating distances so in order for us to understand those concepts in a practicable way, humans invented numbers so that we could assimilate certain facts because that is the way that our mind operates, but numbers do not exist. That is just a humanly way for us to make sense out of untangible concepts.

Numbers are a concept that humans have created. They exist as ideas in our mind just as things like democracy or color or any other non-material concept that we have put a label on to better describe and communicate with others.
If it were not for numbers we would not be able to communicate at all. how fast were you going? How much money does this cost? etc.
