A lot of elderly people have all the stuff they need; in fact, many are trying to downsize.
How about a gift certificate to a nice restaurant? Or treat her to dinner there yourself? Or a gift certificate for some other service she might like?

My Mum is exactly like this. Makes Christmas a nightmare. What about a good book or a book on a tape she can listen to. What about a Wallace and Grommett video if she has a video player. You could buy her a radio cassette CD player. Not very expensive. Carpet sweeper. Plant or bird feeder for the garden. Lap tray. Picture for the wall. Table lamp. Thorntons chocolates, bottle of her favourite drink. Hairdryer. New tablecloth. Hand cream. Bath products. Bath rugs. Hope I've given you some ideas? Now for my Mum!

Ok...both of mine are no longer but I have a lot of experience in buying gifts for them when they were!
1. A lovely cuddly blanket...particularly the faux fur ones with either fleece or satin on the underside. Woolies do one as do QVC (I've just bought 2 of the QVC ones). They're good for either placing over the bed as an extra and/or decorative cover and great for snuggling up in the chair/sofa with. Here's the QVC link .... https://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/params.item.825243/walk.html.|Cor_uk_MyAcct,html
That may be a bit expensive though!
2. Picture frames, especially one that you've already put a special picture of you/her in it (or a picture memory relevant to her)
3. Grannies love nighties and bedjackets!
4. Have you thought of something off the wall, like a subscription to her favourite magazine or newspaper to be delivered?
5. Something else different.....take her for a day out to her favourite place/restaurant/cafe...just spend TIME with her taking in the sights, a bit of shopping.....and YOU pay for everything!
6. Would she possibly go for a beauty treatment, even a manicure/pedicure/facial/massage etc? Or how about paying for her to have her hair done???
7. A BAG/purse/wallet. Look at what she uses now....is it due for an update?
8. Is she into listening to music? Does she have a radio or a cd player or something she can easily use to listen to whilst pottering around the house.
9. Is she into TV viewing? Does she have more than terrestrial channels? If not and she complains about nothing being on...Asda are doing a freeview set top box for about £24 at the moment and its a good one. I know cos my elderly neighbour has it.
10. How about something really practical, like stamps towards her gas or electricity bills? Not exciting but very practical and she'd use them.
11. Her favourite shop gift vouchers? M&S/Debenhams...or wherever...they always come in handy.
12. Getting into dreaded territory now. The usual scented drawer liners/padded clothes hangers/scented candles etc.
13. Fluffy hot water bottles/heated gloves/heated slippers/ even an electric blanket???
14. Bedding???? You always need pillowcases/duvet covers/sheets etc
15. Do you have any old family photos of her???? How about a lifetime collage in a big poster size frame?
I could go on but I don't know your Gran! Hope some of these have been helpful or at least made you think differently. I'll watch this post so that if it's helpful but you want more ideas or more info about any of the above ideas, then I'll pick it up.
Bear in mind, I've heard this so many times....that when they get to a certain age, presents are so boring (slippers, chocs, scarves, tights etc), that they'd really just rather either have money or nothing at all. I wholeheartedly believe that any gift you've put personal thought and attention and effort into because it's personal to that person is worth the effort and much better. That's why they say it's the thought that counts!
Good luck and do come back and tell us what you got her.
Celine

Someone to spend a bit of time with her to talk about the old days
when you get to 77 you tend to look back instead of forward. Even asking her opinion on something will make her feel needed
A parachute jump
A toy boy
it's nice to be important
But it's more important to be nice!

I think that you should try either a kitchen applience, little statue or something of that nature, and if you are really desperate you could get her a gag gift.
But the easiest way to find out what to buy her may be to just ask here, this will show how mature you are.
