Mr. Holland's Opus, the Sound of Music, and Walk the Line are all good ones. You should check out any Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals: The King and I, Oklahoma, South Pacific, just to name a few. All these will have you wanting to sing along.

Mr Holland's Opus is a great movie. Moulin Rouge has a mix of modern and old. Rent is very popular, but there is some questionable content - Drugs, AIDS. Chicago, Dreamgirls is coming out. Happy Feet.
Depends on what you are looking for.

What kind of music? There are tons of musical movies that are great - A Chorse Line, Chicago, Fame ... or if your looking to inspire a kid, maybe something more like Sister Act (I or II) or High School Musical.

There are many films capable of this... but, I would recommend an opera instead of film.
