Several years ago, a biology professor said that with technology such as artificial insemination and things like that, man's role in reproduction has basically become obsolete. I was wondering what women think about that. Do you think guys are obsolete? Would you have a problem if guys were removed from the reproductive picture.

That would be terrible!
What would all the straight women do?
How would people love? I mean you need the company of a guy somtimes, or a lot of the time actually, woman can be so bitchy to hang out with.

I think If I ever was going to have chidren I would want to do it the natural way, so much more fun :P and well, it's just a heck of a lot less creepy then having scientists play god.

What kind of Biology professor would say something so obviously wrong? We need sperm to make a baby, and last I checked thats what men brought to the table, even in artificial insemination. Men will never be obsolete unless they find a plant in the rainforest that makes human sperm that is viable for reproduction. Even if they did, I'd rather make sweet love and get preggers than have a rainforest baby. I think a lot of women would agree that they want their child to have two parents if it's possible. Boys and girls both need male role models when they are growing up. Atari is obsolete, not men. Please.

Humans are the only animals that desire and are capable of having sex when no impregnation is possible, due to timing, contraception, illness, etc. Tradition says a man and a woman make a baby together. Even for the ones who might, in the future, choose artificial insemination, the bonding inherent in the sex act, the feelings that it brings to both parties, make it unlikely that either sex will ever become obsolete. I hope.

well guys aren't obsolete and will never be obsolete in my opinion. men are needed just as much as women are needed. the artificial insemination wouldn't work if there were no guys around now would it? and i can't imagine the reproduction aspect of our lives without men it just wouldn't work. i don't know about anyone else but i need my hubby to reproduce and be with me to the end of our time on earth.

This advancement in science you are talking about, is true, I have read it in a national newspaper some time ago. You never know though, it's likely that in a hundred years babies may even be produced outside of the body. I have seen in discovery channel that it is possible physiologically that men could give birth as well, and yes, without a uterus. But as for men being wiped off the face of the Earth, I think this would make the world a dull place as men are attractive beings, and as a woman I think it's nice to have them around ;)

There is a phenomenon in nature known as parthenogenesis, also know as virgin birth, which is the growth and development of an embryo or seed without the fertilization by a male. There are many species that are able to reproduce without the presence of males. Humans, however, rely on men for much more complicated reasons. I love my fiance and, of course, would never view men as obsolete or wish for their removal. However, it is scientifically possible for human females to evolve to the point where men are no longer needed. And besides, reproducing the old fashioned way is much more fun. ;o)

I have a problem thinking that any woman who likes sex, or is married would want her man out of the picture. I'm sure they like the pleasure of it, as well as the kids. Sorry to be crude, but that's the way it is. I think the only way A.I. would be used is if a couple is having issues concieving the natural way. Hope this helps.

No I don't think guys are obsolete. I don't want to get it on with an insemination syringe.

Yes there would be a problem... we have needs. Men need women and vice versa....but quite often girls are dissapointed from other gender and that's why they prefer not to get marry, but to have artificial insemention.
