When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them, and everything is Vista ready.
Microsoft is about to release its latest operating system, Vista, in January. It’s going to make all of these “bargain” computers nothing but JUNK as soon as it’s released. The reason that you are seeing so many cheap systems on the market right now is because a lot of them CAN’T RUN Vista and the merchants are trying to dump them as hard and fast as they can before Vista shows up and everyone learns what a piece of crap they were sold for $500 (or whatever).
Anyway, I bought a complete, new system from stupidcheapcomputers.net with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.
I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.
Good luck!

ACER has some really good combination at affordable prices so also compaq,of the two compaq is even better, nowdays one needs 60 gb harddisc space,256 mb ram,a combo drive and multiple USB ports,a 14 inch monitor is good enough for normal usage :) also check for the battery life after one charge 2 to 4 hrs battery life is normal.

Gateways are decent. That's what I use. It's been dropped more than a few times, and covered in muddy water when I decided to splash through a puddle in my truck. It has some good features too: 3.06Ghz P4 512Mb RAM, Dual Layer DVDRW, 15.4" widescreen. It's the 7330GZ if you're interested.

inspite of the actuality that you do, do no longer purchase a HP Pavilion Tx1000 pill. It sounds outstanding at the starting up yet i comprehend of a minimum of sixty 3 those who bought this computing device and had it crash once the guaranty became out. i comprehend this does no longer answer your question, yet i'm attempting to enable human beings comprehend that procuring the computing device is a negative idea. yet to respond to your question, i'd purely bypass to distinct computing device web pages and searching lower than the smaller computers section. in various of circumstances they have one. Then purely locate the most inexpensive one and artwork your way up from there. Then be sensible to study as many comments as you could about the computing device so that you do not finally end up getting a defective computing device like me.

I did a market survey for notebooks and finally gone for DELL. Though it is not the best but its value for money. TOSHIBA is no doubt market leader but you need to pay much more. while with a lesser value u can have max features in Dell compared to Toshiba. For music, no one can beat SONY vaio. so least goes on. Dont think more. GO ahead with Dell. May be Insprion 6400 or E1507 model. Dont go for 17" screen. Its bulky.

IF you need it for processing speed, and reliability, then I suggest you go for sony. Otherwise, lenovo is also good in notebook and the thinkpad category. you will have all the features advertised in other brands + lots more in terms of security features.
