Gargling with 1/5 Hydrogen peroxide and WATER (don't 4get the water) work well. As does 1/5 Salt & Water. They will help you get rid of a sore throat. Hot tea with honey & lemon will make it feel better and relieve the pain but not cure the problem.

Gargle with salt water...not VERY salty, or you'll gag. But like half a teaspoon in an 8 oz glass.
Also, drink pineapple juice or eat pineapples. They contain some sort of chemical that breaks down the irritation in your throat.
My mom tells me both of those EVERYTIME I get a sore throat, which is often.

Don't eat any sort of dairy product -- it'll increase the mucous production in your throat and further irritate it.
Brew some hot water with juice of 1 lemon, 1/2 tablespoon of grated ginger, a small(!) pinch of cayenne and some honey and drink 'er down -- works like MAGIC and clears your sinuses too.

Gargle with salt water. Drink Chamomile tea with honey. Stay away from milk and dairy products as it will build up mucus...

Hot water with honey and lemon. My family also makes a cough syrup consisting of honey and lemon. Honey has wonderful antibacterial properties and lemon of course has vitamin C.
Be sure to cook with lots of garlic and/or onions while you're sick, because they are very antibacterial too.

Make a tea out of slippery elm root (try a co-op or health food store to buy this). It tastes a lot like licorice.
