♥♪♦♫ I think that they were here once before but they were here in the time of Noah Ark and they just missed the boat and then God took all of them up to heaven where they are now a figment of our imagination, maybe we just have a memory.♥♪♦♫

Actually, I hate to be a nerd on this one, but...

If you go to a library and do some research into the actual folklore and the medieval European imagery of the unicorn in particular...you'll discover that the traditional unicorn has more goatlike features (the "beard", the split-cloven hooves, the hoof fur) than horselike ones. The equine unicorn is a fairly recent invention historically, and the winged "pegasus/unicorn" hybrid is more of a modern thing....

And there is a reason for this.

Domesticated goats and wild antelopes alike have been shown to have the potential for a really *rare* mutation that forces them to grow a single horn up the middle of their foreheads. And while that mutation only applies to roughly one in ten thousand animals, goats have been tamed animals long enough, and antelopes around long enough, for single-horned animals to work their way into both European and Chinese folklore.

So....yeah, you could say I "believe in unicorns", mainly because I've seen pictures of the *grain of truth* behind the folklore. :) It's not really anything magical, it is just a rare birth defect among goats and antelopes (some of which turn out beautiful animals *anyway*).

Wouldn't it be nice if they were. They are such pretty animals when you look for pictures of them. I especially like the ones that they show with wings as well as the horn. Kind of a Pegasus and Unicorn combined. Love these mystical creatures.

when the first explorers went to Africa the saw what the thought to be one horn.I think the name for the animal was an Oric (forgive the spelling) viewed from the side they do actually look like they have one horn.

They used to send back the skins back unfortunately the taxidermist didn't know what the looked like you would find animals like the wombat stuff and mounted walking on two legs

I have never seen one so i dont know... however it has never been proven that they exist so i would have to go with no. But should someone find a white horse with a horn growing out of its head the odds are its a deformity... if there is a fairy riding on top then you've got a real life acid trip. :)

I agree with lindalou, not in this dimension. besides, unicorns signify purity, is there still anything worthy of a unicorn's presence in this world and dimension?

I know that they are real. There are different dimensions that are right next door to us. fairies, gnomes and the like exist within it. The wiccan religion hoplds onto that innocence that what we cannot see is still in existence, so yes they have got to be real(smile) blessed be

Not in this earthly dimension in this period of time, no. I think that they may have existed on this earth at some point in time, and they may even exist now, in another dimension, but no, not here and now.
