I think one of the most important advantages of team teaching is modeling civil, respectful discourse, especially when debating different sides of an issue. So many of our students never see adults treating one another with respect at home or in their communities. There are other advantages, such as collaborating when planning, taking advantage of your teammate's strenths. However, I still think the most important advantage is the modeling of a healthy, respectful relationship between two adults who have joined forces to have a positive impact on the lives of their students.

I like to teach with someone else because it gives me and the students a break. It adds variety and differerent perspectives. It works really well if you and the other teacher truly do make a good team. It's lousy when you and the other teacher don't get along.

of course it's nice if you get the flu or something you have an automatic backup. it gives you opportunities to do good-cop/bad-cop or take different (opposing) roles or viewpoints. it allows you to be in two places at once (at the front and at the back door).
you will have more expertise. during practical exercises two students can be helped at one time instead of just one.
the second teacher can be assigned to handle unruly or difficult students freeing the other one to teach.
anytime you add teachers it helps.
