I think that everybody takes the fact they woke up this morning for granted. Every day we wake up on Earth truly is a blessing. No one is promised one more day, one more minute, or one more second. The fact that everyday, in a sense, we can start anew is truly a blessing. People who get up in the morning dreading something or people who live for yesterday are wasting their lives away. Be grateful each time you take a breath, and especially be thankful when you're given another new day.

Our nature is such that the most viable necessities are satisfied with little effort. As we request less necessary, we have to work/ strive harder. Thus, clean air, clear - clean - healthy water, love, family, friends, time and willingness for dialogs - progress - etc., are not that expensive/ time consuming.
But when we want a luxury transportation means, some radios and TVs and other sets that we could happily live without them, do unnecessary acts, etc., we have to spend valuable time, efforts, strategy, organization and resources!

Most people in a fast-paced environment tend to take basic things for granted until its not there. We take family for granted or as inconsequential. Basic things such as health and fitness/nutrition are not given enough importance.

I'm not sure where you are from, but in the U.S., I've found after my travels while I was in the Navy, that we here take everything for granted. Go to South America(just an example from my experiences). People here are so freakin spoiled, it's not even funny. I've learned to count my blessings from my travels.

yes people do pause to consider soemthing meaningful
whether its religion, or their loved ones, or their dreams
we are humans, none of us are completely cold

Do you mean not being thankful for something and regarding it as a right? Where I come from people always say Please God when they talk about the future, because you cannot take it for granted that there WILL be one. We're not religious freaks, just fatalistic by nature.

I think - and I might be a bit pessimistic - that people tend to take everything for granted except for themselves. Look around you, and observe it for yourself. Many people think about themselves first, before thinking of what their actions might do to others /the environment/etc.
