I don't know but it seems nowadays they diagnose any hyperactivity or problem behavior in kids as ADHD. Why don't you ask this in the "Mental Health" category?

A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. is a form of other kind of Animal and just 20 years ago only we star to study. I know becouse i was diagnostic with A.D.H.D. and A.D.D. a 2 years ago and a sofer for 48 year because IGNORANCE and luck of knowledge. To bad we are so behind in Brain studys, and so much ignorance in this times . Maybe in 20 years from now we understand. It is REAL more arrudaray@yahoo.com.

Approximately 12 million US citizens a year are diagnosed with it... can't find any international statistics.
Of course, it's likely that many of these are misdiagnosed, as many conditions can appear to be ADD/ADHD (some of them being allergies) and in some cases, it is a cop-out.
The very real medical condition of ADD/ADHD is actually more difficult to diagnose than many doctors in the 80s and 90s would have had us believe.

Probably LOTS of children who have lazy/ignorant parents that can't be bothered to discipline and provide their children with a proper diet.

to many. It is a made up excuse for failure, bad parenting, and a lack of self discipline.
