Lots of reasons... it could be anything from he actually loves the chick and wants to be with her, to the sheer fact that he knows she'll let him sleep with her and he doesn't feel like making a lot of effort trying to sleep with another chick.
Personally I haven't a clue. I've got an ex who wants me back... and I want him back... but I don't know what I'm going to do yet because we've broken up twice, once because I cheated, and once because he did. (Neither times were *technically cheating*, because we didn't sleep with anyone else, but since when is cheating a technicality?)
But anyway good luck figuring it out... it really all boils down to your judgement of the situation.

Your question is vague but...

Overall why this happens is...because usually someone gets out a relationship and starts reflecting on it. They think of what might have been, they get lonely, and think it will be better the second time around.

That and sometimes it's hard to stop having feelings for the other person, even if the relationship did not and will not work.

People want what they can't have. She probably ignored the hell out of him after they split....or showed no feelings of sadness or the want of getting back together. A lot of times.....when someone shows a complete lack of care that the relationship ended...the other person starts wondering, "What the hell?" and trying to win them back.

This question has absolutely no background or scenario....so I answered what I know.

I would say that he still loves the ex and wants to give it another try.

Because their ex was probably there to pick up the peices. Kinda like waiting for him to be available again.

Men are so complicated they don't know what they want half the time and the other half of the time they want something that they cant have. May-be they broke up on good terms? or may bey they both grew up? I don't know what to tell you but I'm sorry.

depends on the circumstances really
if say they just broke up....he might have realized breaking up with her was a mistake

if however its been awhile and he's been out of town or something....he might just be looking for a guaranteed thing if he knows she has feelings for him still

I say him but the situation can be rearranged for a her
