I assume though you are unclear you are asking what effect service in Iraq has on military forces that serve there. Further I will take it for granted you refer to US forces. I have served 24 years in the United States Air Force, I am now retired from active service and work as civilian electronic warfare consultant in Afghanistan but I have served in Iraq. I can only say everyone reacts differently and not every one experiences the same things. I see and take part in very little that is traumatic so I have not been too traumatized. I am not bragging but I seem to handle it pretty well when exposed to the ugly stuff. This is probably because I am not exposed often or for very long. A few days ago there were a lot of wounded and dead brought into the aide station due to a suicide bomb. I was nearby at the moment so I asked if I could help and got put to work helping carry stretchers and donated blood. As soon as I was no longer needed I ate lunch and slept fine that night. We all deal with these things in our own ways and have our own limits of what we can withstand and stay sane. Some come home with limbs missing and some come home with scars on their souls that cannot be seen. Many are not changed much at all. Those who suffer post traumatic stress are not weak and those that seem to be able to take in stride are not unfeeling monsters. They are just different people experiencing different things in different ways
