1. They don't want the view that other people have of them to change, especially family and friends.
2. They fear that it will be harmful to their careers if they came out.
3. They fear repercussions from the church or other religious institutions.
4. They like living a secret life -- their lifestyle might conflict with their own internal value systems but since only they know that (among the most important people in their lives), it doesn't effect them much as long as that life is kept a secret.
5. They know that sometimes society mistakenly associates lack of manliness with homosexuality, and that is something they cannot put up with.
6. They fear loss of inheritance from elderly parents or other relatives.
7. They somehow can't realize that important people around them already know.
8. They have never really fully accepted their own sexual orientation. To come out to another person would force them to see themselves as something other than a straight person who is confused or experimenting.

(1) Because some evil S.O.B. has switched all of their clothes with polyester jump suits from the 70's. (2) A group of women nudists are hanging out in their living room. (3) Their boyfriend (who just stopped taking his meds), is searching the house with a butcher knife, `cuz he just discovered that they've been cheating.

People stay in the closet because they are afraid of being hated and attacked if they are open about themselves.
Hope all is well with you, guy!

It's because of hateful people like pinkbox63, ***********, olga, and miss pepsi that gays and lesbians stay hidden. I'm glad you had the courage to come out and be yourself!

men have it deff harder than women when coming to sexuality. men think hey ur either gay or not, and if your gay go kill yourself. men have no feeling towards that. if everyone were straight we would be zoomies or exact clones. god madeeach one of us who we are. if he made our sexuality all the same, then wewould be some what exactly alike. but yes men find it hardertocomeout because were all suppose to be straight.

Reasons to come out:
-It sucks to have to switch pronouns constantly
-Feels good to not lie to people
-Without being out you don't have a community to learn from, share with, lean on for support
-It's WAY easier to meet guys if you're out
-If everyone came out gay rights would be a fact...not a debate

You are the best one to answer the question. Why was it so hard for you? i believe FEAR is the best answer, and by judging some of the answers already put forth, i can see why. But you have overcome your fear, which places you high above many. If as many of us "STRAIGHT" ppl. could overcome our fears as you have, we could become a more forgiving, understanding and more prevalent species.

maybe because society is so quick to judge someone and maybe their scared of what people would say but if everyone focus on his/her ownself then there would be no problems. So don't care what others say just live your life and if other want to continue to prive into your life then that shows that they have no life to live of their own.

Usually in general when people hide, they have done something wrong (like Adam and Eve when they ate from the tree...they hid) or when children mess with something they aren't suppose to and brake that item, they hide. My opinion is that they are ashamed and deep down inside they know it is wrong.
