I had a normal hard drive 40 GB with my first pc. I kept the hard disk but I upgraded to a new 3.0 GHZ pc and it came with a new SATA hard disk because motherboards hard disk model only works with SATA hard drives as I was told.
I got some important files on the old normal disk.
Now is there any way to connect the old one to my new pc?

If your new PC do not have any extra IDE slot, you can connect your old hard disk to the IDE slot that your CD-ROM drive is using (I'm sure you have at least one IDE slot thats connecting to your CD-ROM drive, otherwise how do you use your CD-ROM drive). You can even leave it connected together with your CD-ROM drive if you want.

You just have to plug the IDE cable into both the CD-ROM and the hard disk. In case your IDE cable do not have extra connector, you can buy one from any computer store. The one with 3 connectors (One to your motherboard and the other 2 to your hard disk and CD-ROM drive).

You just have to remember to set your CD-ROM as master and the hard disk as slave will do.

If not, you can just temporary unplug the IDE cable connecting to your CD-ROM drive and connect it to the hard disk and plug it back after transferring the files.

an easy way of accessing your files would be to buy a "usb hard-drive/cd enclosure case." which would run you about 25 bucks. or you can get a "ide to usb" cable for a few bucks less. If you want to continue using your hard-drive i suggest you get an enclosure. check newegg.com or your favorite store. i might give you more answer if you know the type of motherboard you own?

You can purchase an IDE / PCI interface which will allow you to connect your old drive to the new PC. You can purchase this at most computer hardware stores.
