Not sure what it might be. Our son normally is a very healthy 35lb 31in boy. He is always very energetic and happy. He normally doesn't cry unless something is wrong or he doesn't get what he wants. Recently he has been having just short out bursts of painfully crying and then it goes away, there isn't anything leading up to or following as far as being upset. He has no signs of anything wrong, he is eating and keeping everything down, not that he has ever had a problem keeping anything down, he is still active and energetic, there doesn't seem to be any bumps or bruises anywhere or any type of swelling. He is sleeping well and everything else seems to be great. He bumped his head square on a piece of base trim about 2 weeks ago and that seems to have healed and when it happened the swelling came out and not in. With all of this information is this just a way of getting attention or is there something here we need to worry about?

Separation fears and stranger anxiety kick in at about that age. Is he crying when you leave the room or when a stranger or pet comes close?
Extra reasurances are good if that is what it is, to help him recognize that you are close-by when he can't see you and that people he doesn't recognize are known to you.

Could be almost anything from constipation, pinching from clothes, growth spurts can be painful sometimes, teething, ear infection, etc. Best to go to doctor's just in case, but I'd guess it's probably not very serious. My eldest daughter did the same thing, ended up she was just growing more teeth plus had ear infection at the same time. Few drops of medication later, and she was back to her normal self.

My son did this and didnt have any signs of anything else and ended up being an ear infection. No signs of a cold, no pulling on his ears or anything. Just take him to the dr to make sure.

My son did the same thing at that age. But his problem was he was constipated and it hurt hum to take a dump. He would grab his butt sometimes when he'd cry. It's really hard to say!!!

maybe he has collic (I really have no idea how to spell it, sorry). I had it as a baby, and normally I was very quiet and happy... but at night I think it was I would just scream and scream ... doctors aren't really sure what causes it. Ask yours about it, that could easily be it.

14 months is no infant!! your toddler could have a number of things going on talk to your doc to rule out anything serious then chalk it up to another wonderful "stage" he is going through
