where I come from there is little to no reputible dance instructors or studios and I have always been naturally talented with dance.....I need some instruction, but is it too late to begin a career because of my age? I need reality, not the cliche answer of ,"it's never too late!"

25 is not too old for ballroom, but depends on what do you mean by "professional" and what exactly you want to do. "Professional" in ballroom is anyone who is charging money to teach dancing. The are competing and non-competing pro's. If you want to be one of the country's top professional competitors and be famous for dancing, you will need about 7-10 years of professional instructions. That means you will be in your best shape experience-wise when you are 33-35. You will be competing with those in early 20s. I'm not saying it is impossible, I'm just sayin it looks pretty hard, especially if you are a woman. If you are a guy - you have like 3-5 years advantage, guys can get away with being older. To achieve your goals in ballroom, you will have to relocate to take lessons with good coaches. If you want your career to be mostly teahcing, that is a highly likely possiblity.

Salsa and merengue are club dances, so there aren't that many professional opportunities. You could get good at it and perhaps join a salsa performance group, I suppose. You are not too old for that at all, but this seems to be rather small goal to aspire to as a dancer.

Sorry, I don't know much about hiphop to tell you anything definite.

Honestly, you've got your work cut out for you and I really do think you are too old, but I could be wrong. A great instructor will help, but at your age you may have already developed some bad habits that will need to be corrected, and though you are only 25, your body will probably not give you enough time to really go a long ways. You will also have to devote a LOT of time to learning - close to full time - and I don't mean just a couple of hours 3 times/week. It is fun to watch the TV dance shows and put yourself in the dancer's places and think you could do that too, but the professionals on there started really young and the competition is ferocious especially for women. I do wish you the best and encourage you to get some good instruction and enjoy dancing in any way possible.

You can pursue a career in dance but it will be hard due to your age . Usually dancers start pro careers much earlier , however you are not so old as to make it impossible , just a bit harder .
