Hamsters are solitary animals, so yours most likely became territorial and as a result killed the mouse. Your hamster is probably in shock from the scuffle with the mouse, and he could be injured as well. Try to check and see if the hamster has been hurt--the mouse could have bitten the hamster. If he seems okay, just watch him very closely to make sure he starts eating and drinking.

This is something you'll probably have to play by ear... Unless the hamster has a gaping wound and needs stitches, I wouldn't bother taking it to the vet. Hamsters are so little that there would be very little a vet could do to help. Just giving it some TLC is about the best you can do. If the hamster isn't injured or bitten, it might be okay after it calms down. However, it could be that the hamster's been too badly hurt or too stressed, and it might die.

In the future, keep your pets separated. Separate species should live in separate cages.

Hamsters are solitary creatures and they are VERY territorial. Which is why you aren't supposed to keep two hamsters in the same cage (unless they are dwarf hamsters). Especially a hamster and another species..even different hamster species. They probably fought and who knows what happened to the mouse. Maybe it escaped or maybe the hamster ate it. Never never never ever put a hamster in a cage with anything else again.

This is why you shouldn't keep small rodents together. Hamsters are to be kept one to a cage, due to the risk of fighting. Many people recommend not housing different types of hamsters together, more or less housing a hamster with a mouse!
