And tell you which coupon to use on what item? Every single item bought was on clearance...they've used 13 coupons on 7 items, but still get angry with you b/c you've "cheated" them out of 6 cents. Indian men don't really do it so much, but the women will tear you apart b/c they've figured out the price in their heads. Reeeally good at math like that. I know I'm gonna get some backlash, but allll of us cashiers have notcied the same thing. Have you noticed this?

Bargaining is a very common practice in India; many Indian-run stores in the West do bargain. Many women from India have learned to be very assertive with shopkeepers to get a good price, and the ones you are encountering at your job are probably just keeping up that habit.

I believe it's a cultural thing. In India, shopping is done in the marketplace where haggling is expected.

Here, we don't have haggling, but we have coupons, LOL! It's sort of the same theory, in a way.

Just enjoy the fact that you got to experience another culture. If you went to India and agreed to the first or even second price the guy quoted you in the marketplace, you'd probably be looked at as pretty odd yourself ;)

That is sooo true!!!!! So I didn't work retail but I sold Dish Network door to door for a temporary job, I'd give them dish with all the discounts and sales I could yet still, for some reason they always thought I could give it to them cheaper, which of course I couldn't I'm just a door to door girl!!! lol! I know it sounds racist but it never happened when I sold dish to people of other races! The Indians were never satisfied, always feeling cheated and trying to talk the prices down and make deals. Kinda frustrating! Everyone I worked with said it was the same with them too! lol

You are so right. I used to work in the credit card industry and I had an Indian woman get upset over a ten cent finance charge. It was the principle she reasoned. That phone call cost more than her dam finance charge.

Yeah - my best female friend is from Sri Lanka. We went shopping at the labor day sales and she was brutal!!! Also she didn't let us have a lunch break until after 1:00 PM. Doesn't she know it's tough for guys to shop that long? (At least heterosexual guys).

If they have a right to the discounted price, they should fight for it.
