My husband and I get to see his 10 year old son three times a year (we live over a thousand miles away) and one of those times is Thanksgiving. We asked 'BabyMomma' if it was okay for us to get him an XBox 360 as an early Christmas gift. She said'yes, but how am I supposed to top that?'. So we give it to him and he's all happy and stuff, he and his Dad have some bonding time and everything is great. When BabyMomma arrives to pick him up, he exclaims 'hey mom, dad got me an XBox!' to which she replies 'yeah, well I got you a Playstation 3!'.
He hasn't signed onto his XBox live account, which leads me to believe that they hooked up the PS3 and the XBox is going to be a dust collector. She couldn't even wait until Christmas or something. Says she just happened to be at the right place at the right time to get one - she was in a WalMart and they announced that 4 more had just come in (isn't the second shipment scheduled for December 10th, and would they really risk a stampede?) Help!

Sadly she acts like a child herself. Maybe you should have the child bring back the unit you bought and you can keep it at your house for when he comes there. And if not there isn't to much you can do. Your husband needs to talk to her about it but I'm going to assume she isn't going to change. For whatever reason she doesn't get it that just because one parent buys an expensive gift doesn't mean the other one has to be shown up.

She is the legal guardian so of course she would hook up the system she bought. DUH!!!! If he was living with you you would hook that X-Box up. Next time get him some money or somthing cause there is nothing you can do. What you can do with theX-Box is putit at your place and when he visits let him use it there.

Or you can confront her.

Ignore it and let it go. Parenthood is not a competition.
