I understand peoples reasoning behind home schooling but i think that children also need interaction with their peers. Without it they have difficulty with social interaction and have difficulty relating to children their own age. I think if you have them active around the community ie local junior sports teams where they work together with others or the ymca/boys and girls club; they won't have such an issue.

With all the cuts to education the last few years, kids are getting shortchanged anyway by going to public school. Teachers do not have the time to help students who are having trouble; troubled students kind of fall through the cracks. Many of the kids who are home schooled have more opportunities because they can concentrate on areas they are interested in rather than a set curriculum that some school board has set up. If they are having problems with a particular concept, there is someone there who has the time to help them. The only downside to homeschooling is that the kids do not get the experience of dealing with other kids.

Homeschooling is much better for the kids, if they have parents that care enough to put themselves out to do it. They get one on one education, can pick their own electives, have more time to socialize and with all walks of life, not just their peers, as in the real world. They have the benefit of the parent changing the teaching style to fit the individual's learning style. Public school, and private, is more of a cookie cutter style, and not everyone fits that. We all learn differently, and in a classroom the teacher, no matter how good she is, cannot possibly work with 20+ students individually to see how they learn. So, if you are a little slower you end if with lousy grades and poor self-esteem. If you are a little faster than the others, you end up with high grades but are so bored you can't stand to sit there, and lose your interest in learning. This was my husband. He did independent study his senior year and completed four years of work in one. Otherwise, he would have failed more than once. Homeschooling also increases the bond between mom and dad and child, cutting back on the acting out and behavior issues that typical kids have. Homeschooling allows you to focus on positive interaction with peers, not sending them to school to be bully's or be bullied, to learn about sex ed by third grade, etc. There's many reasons why homeschooling is better, I've seen it work for so many kids, and will be homeschooling mine. We are doing preschool this year.

As a teenager I went to a public school and I also did home school. I choose home school and I do not feel cheated. My opinion is that a child really should go to a public or private school for a while so that they can make friends. Also they need to learn how to get along and communicate with others. I did my homeschooling the last half of 10th grade and I LOVED IT!!!

I feel that it is their choice, but I would rather have my children in a public school, a good public school. They do exist and are an enormous influence on a child's future. Not only do children learn the educational basics in school, but more importantly they learn to interact with other children and the basics of how the world is in general. When children are homeschooled, there's a good chance that they'll lose out on the very important lessons in interaction and life. But that's just my opinion. Like I said, its the parents' choice to make.

I think homeschooling is better than public schooling, but I think private schools are better than home schooling. I would like to see a voucher program where people could afford to send their kids to a private school without having to pay so much tuition. If the public schools had to compete for the students, they would make sure they offered better service than they do now. As an example, I had a Spanish teacher who couldn't read a letter written in Spanish that was brought in by an exchange student.

I had considered homeschooling when I first had children and researched it well. I think if you bring a teacher in to do the homeschooling ... sure.. whatever.. but the mother/ father should NOT be the teacher, they should be the parent. I also think that children lack proper social behaviour and don't get the interaction with others that they need. Home schooling is too limiting both educational and emotionally.

I am a teacher in a public school system. I have been assaulted by students, threatened, been through gun scares, and more. A girl hid a razor blade in her shoe and told a student she was going to slice me with it. She didn't get expelled because the blade wasn't long enough.
I have a strange perspective on this whole thing. I think that home schools are not the best idea because I think kids need social interaction. I suggest sending your kid to a private school if you can afford it or moving to a good school distric.. (possibly outside a big city's limits). There are some good schools in more rural areas.

It could be a good thing or a bad thing it depends on the Parents.
In the age of the internet, it is quite a simple thing to do. The downfall would be the way the children grow up to communicate with other children. The upside would be no bullying and also they would actually be taught something they find remotely interesting.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and how to raise their children. Personally I would never home school my children. At a public or private school children learn how to share and play with other kids. They also can do things like participate in sports, band, academic activities. Also they learn about their first crush and first love.
