I thought jail was supposed to rehabilitate them.
Honestly I'd say it would depend on the crime. (You reminded me of a question I had over the weekend).
I'd like the be compensated or at least have him pay in a more tangible way than being in jail where s/he has an all-expenses paid "trip".

It depends on the crime. I don't know fi you have ever seen the film the Shawshank Redemption but Morgan Frreman's character talks about what rehabilitation actually means and are criminals sorry for what they have done. I don't believe the rehab that people would receive would help if they weren't sorry, they could be lieinmg to get out of a jail sentence and offend soon after. I am increasingly disillusioned by this country's justice system with regards to murderers, rapists etc. They should go to jail for their crime and not be given the easy option. in terms of murder life shoudl mean life, compensation would be seeing the criminal locked up with no chance of appeal.

B if it were anything like robbery, because it would mean they would never need to do anything like that again.
A. is just revenge, not justice, plus they'd probably learn a new trick or two from whoever they shared the cell with.
I'd only pick A if they were a risk to the public 'within themselves' as opposed to a thief; then they need be kept away from the public. Violence also needs to be rehabilitated out of people, though, so they'd need treatment or something whilst inside-or they'll just stay angry and violent!
Oh, and those people who like 'no right to appeal' ... every year you see the government forced to apologise for getting it wrong. No appeal means guilty people fit up someone (usually mentally slow or totally in love with them) and get away without ever being brought to justice. It isn't fair. If the conviction is just, it WILL stand.

I'd rather see an eye for an eye but since that will never happen, I want them to pay me!It's pretty messed up that if someone commits a crime against me (and they actually get caught), that my tax dollars support them while they sit on their a** and do nothing in jail!!! How is that justice?

That all depends on the crime that was commit ed against me. I think in some cases that jail is better, then again in different cases rehabilitation is better than jail.

Rehabilitated and pay compensation, but if they murdered someone I would want them in jail. I guess it all depends on if they are a threat to society.

Good question! What kind of a compensation would you have liked should the crime commited against you be the MURDER?

A.
Due to the fact that most people in today's society would rather go to jail than be rehab and pay money to there victim. Plus I would be filling a law-suit against the defendant if he was given b.

Jail. I don't really believe criminals can be rehabilitated and I'm the sort of person that would like to see them suffer for what they had done to me.

I have worked in a magistrates court and I would send them to Jail having said that ,that doesnt work either but it would make me feel better knowing they were locked up.
I have seen so many people in court vowing to the mags to lead a better life /change their ways etc etc and as soon as they are outside the court it's the high 5 and I did it to their mates
