I am thinking of changing my major to musical theatre and am wondering if I would even be able to get a job or handle everything the major involves. I am just curious to know if anybody knows of anyone that has had a visual impairment and been able to do this type of stuff before. This is serious as I said so PLEASE BE SERIOUS HERE EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

I also wanted to say that people have said that I have a nice voice and people that are around me know I am naturally overly dramatic. So let me know if you think I do really have any shot at acting/singing/etc...?

I would audition for American Idol, but wouldn't want to deal with those cruel remarks from Simon Cowell.

if you simply google.com "blind actor" you can get all types of information on the subject.

Also, I went to a pre-professional arts high school (I studied theatre) and my roommate was blind, but she was a vocalist. Best soprano I've ever heard!

Famous blind guitarist Jeff Healy acted in some films. Although they were only minor roles he still was impressive. I think Sammy Davis junior was also legally blind. I believe that there was also an actor by the name of Sullivan who was blind. Ray Charles had bit parts in some movies over his career.

If am correct in assuming you have some kind of visual impairment, then don't consider theatre solely on the ability of blind celebrities. I'm sure there are many aspiring actors/actresses with disabilities who excel in this. I would be more concerned with what you feel your potential is. Blind or not, if you want to act, then act. There's really nothing else to think about. Otherwise you truly are handicapped.

"Even heard of Dionne Quan? Maybe not, but you may have heard her. The blind actress is the voice of Kimi, the cowboy-booted toddler on "Rugrats," the popular cartoon series. Quan, who beat out 147 actors for the part, was born with underdeveloped optic nerves. She reads her weekly scripts in Braille."

Well, I am sure that there are, but I can't think of any actors right off the bat... Musicians are another story, though. How about Andrea Bocelli, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles... They are all blind.

I dont know where I read once that Demi Moore lost an eye and that she had a 'glass eye' instead. But I have no way to know if that's true, and when watching all her movies I'm just looking at her eyes to confirm, but ... negative...
