Some timesit works.I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

i wouldnt recommend it
you can get a neww one (300gb) for about 80$ iv seen them cheaper though
if id doesnt work u can take it apart and make a harddrive mirror out if it(my boss sold one he made(30 harddrives) for 1k$)
