I think it is like this because your wireless card may need more than the laptop can provide - why don't you check that the battery is fully charged and use the network limited. This may work.

Sounds like a power saving feature. Click the green block in the system tray near the clock when you have it running off the battery and the power management features should come up. There should be an option to turn the wireless network card back on.

Mark (another answer) is right. If you change the power saving profiles on your machine it should solve the problem. You could also just push the wireless internet indicator button thing (depends on your model) to switch the wireless system on...

Hi, this happens because of the way the laptop was configured. Its normally to save battery life when not connected to the mains. you should be able to solve this, depending on what version of windows you by clicking on start, control panel, power management.
