I have just heard that Steve Spurrier will be taking over the head coach position at Alabama next year. Please tell me this is just a rumor.

There is very good chance of it because he only makes 1.2 million there and Alabama is willing to offer him 3 million.
Plus he would have a better opportunity to win national championships at Alabama, he would be crazy to turn it down.

Mike Shula has definitely been fired as of late last night. And, yes, Spurrier is a hot rumor floating around the state of Alabama. Also, Rodrigeous and Saban.

At this point in time, this appears to be a rumor. Tom Dienhart - SportingNews reports it this way: "Expect Alabama coach Mike Shula to lose his job. He reportedly refuses to make staff changes, which has hurt his already shaky status. Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey is likely to be a candidate. There is talk that Alabama has been in touch with Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer and Arkansas' Houston Nutt. ... " This does not remove Steve Spurrier from consideration, however I believe if he chose to leave his present job, I would think the Miami, Fla job would be his preference.
