Have you added the "Read Mail" button?
If you want to open up Outlook Express from IE do this. Right click on a blank spot on the command bar. Choose customize command bar, then choose add or remove commands. In the box that pops up make sure you have the read mail button added to your command bar. Click on that button and Outlook will open up.

What's happening is IE7. It is causing a problem with Outlook Express. Uninstall it and go back to IE6 and your problem will go away. IE7 is NOT ready for home use, no matter how much Yahoo and others push it. It MAY be ready by the summer of 2007, but I'll test it then and see. In the mean time, uninstall: Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove and the Show Updates box at the top. After everything loads, scroll down to Internet Explorer 7, highlight it and click Remove on the right side. After it uninstalls, close Control Panel and restart your computer for the change to take effect. IE6 will be back and your problem with Outlook Express should be gone.

OE should not disappear. Try creating a new account with OE and then import the data from the previous identity.
Here's how:

Depends on the problem. It may be the security in IE is too high which will interfere with OE sometimes.
OE should work with both. What's happening???
