Well, I could say getting rid of Saddam, but given that the country is quite possibly a far more dangerous place to live right now, that might not even be the right answer.

I could also say that we're helping them financially to rebuild their infrastructure that was damaged in Gulf War Part I. But then I think of the Katrina victims that still don't have homes because we're spending billions and billions to help another country that we've helped destroy and I think, "well, maybe that could make you hold your head high around an Iraqi, but it might make most of us turn in shame from some of our own countrymen."

I guess the "best" thing that can come out of this is the fact that *maybe* someday they'll be able to actually elect their own leaders (but I have a feeling that just like we installed the Shah of Iran and helped bin Laden in his fight against the Russians and helped Saddam take power to begin with, that the idea of "free" elections in any country that holds our energy future in their hands is just laughable).

Sigh. Wish I had better news for you.

Wait, I do have one thing.

Most of our soldiers over there do try daily to make the lives of those in need over there better. They do give food to those in need and help women and children who have lost the male in their family rebuild their homes and stuff. I think the decency that so many of our soldiers over there exhibit is a bright spot among a vast expanse of darkness and despair that our government has inflicted on the Iraqi people. Thank God for the convictions of our soldiers - maybe they represent us far better than our government does.

Yes you can. I've been there and they are glad we are there trying to improve their lives. Forget what the media say. Remember to show them the respect they deserve! Many good things are happening to rebuild the country. I remember a conversation I had with a lad who could speak good english, and he told me how his father was shot dead by saddams cronies. I knew then that we were there for a very good reason.

Captured Saddam , yes you can hold your head high. The other Arab nations are keeping the war going on, to the detriment of us all.

Hold your head high so they can more directly whack you on it.

Compared to what it was, it's more dangerous there now than ever for them. Not one thing we did helped very much.

You think they don't know we removed their dictatorship for our own purposes, not their "best interests"?

Shame on us for butting in to absolutely everything in the world.
