Because it's the only word they can use to describe themselves. I think back in the day socialite had a different meaning. Nowadays it would be: a person with no job but pots of money, who constantly appears in the papers.

Hey BIG KNOB. How can a pervert like you get a job in that school that you used to have the link on here for? Didn't they do an enhanced CRB check on you and do they know how you speak to "Girls" on this site? Cos if they don't they soon will as I have their phone number. Hahahahahahaha. Oh by the way, your cheesy chatup line sucks.

As I need to get out more, I have read her book and, if she is to be believed, she has probably already done more work than most of us will ever do. She professes never to have taken a penny of daddy's money, at least since she grew up. No, she makes money out of idiot magazines, and idiot book readers. She also gets free stuff so that she can advertize for designers, car manufacturers etc. What worries me is that there are people out there watching to see what these celebs use/wear so that they can copy them. Why Chandler why?

You are only unemployed if you want to be employed and a socialite if you don't wish to and have no need to be employed.
(Don't know if i could manage the socialite bit, all those parties, jet setting, money no object, house with pool etc. Ah well back to my one bar electric fire and bowl of soup).

Good point. It seems since they have wealthy families they have copious amounts of time to be social < therefore socialites> in the mean time the rest of us are too tired/busy working our holes out to be social. Raspberry to the lazy buggers.

If you are using Paris Hilton as an example...I have to inform you that she does have a job(s) and one of them is being on a continuing tv series called "The Simple Life" among the many appearances she makes on other shows and what not.She also models for which I believe she does get paid for.

I smell some jealousy...lol.

She is not really "unemployed". She got paid for her "acting" on the Simple Life. And she gets paid for modeling as well.

Ha ha very funny. I don't think it's fair to say they don't want/need to be employed. Pars has tried to get into acting/singing/modelling and she sucks at all of them. She isn't unemployed she's unemployable.

Good point. Another thing that annoys me is that when foreigners come to England they are immigrants. If we emigrate we are 'expats'.It gets up my nose.
