because the Hongkonger are too flashy. Since tradtionally, people always compare Hong Kong to Singapore, the Singaporean guys figure that it'd be wise to dress smartly instead of being too flashy since we know, we don't like flashy, loud and uncouth folks. P.s/- I'm not even a Singaporean or Hongkonger but just a inpartial observer. Hehehehe... If it's any consolation to the Hongkonger, Singaporean men do National Service. They spend most of their adulthood being rugged.

Singapore sucks up "pop culture" big time - hence a people with no souls. Like the city state itself, virtually everthing is manufactured polished to glitter and shine. Sadly all that glitters....

they do not always dress smartly, partly is because their job requires them to and they wanna impress ladies. most of them just wear t-shirts and jeans. cheers
