You will start to see noticeable results on any fitness program in 3 weeks but real fitness will take 6-12 weeks and that assumes that as you become fitter, you increase the intensity of your workout. 20 minutes per day is a good start for a fitness program, but you might want to go a bit longer 1 day a week (30 - 40 minutes) and the long day could be walking or some other aerobic exercise. Also it good to take a day off each week to give you muscles time to rebuild.

It’s going to be hard to get fit on just a 20 minute swim, of course it’s going to help but there are so many variables it’s going to be impossible to come up with a time estimate. If you are already a good swimmer then 20 minutes just won’t cut it. If you are an intermediate swimmer then 20 minutes will give you a little work. If you are a poor swimmer then 20 minutes will get your heart rate up but not improve your fitness much because you won’t be able to sustain your heart rate without rest. Don’t get me wrong, any kind of exercise is good but you’ll really need to do more than 20 minutes to get any meaningful gains in fitness. Swimming is a great workout but you will need to supplement the 20 minute swim with something else for real fitness gains.

almost everyday is good but dont make it just about how long you swim for but also how many lengths, if its a 25 metre pool then maybe 50 a day or if its 50m then do 25.
