It might be possible, who knows if there might be tiny universes inside our atoms. Thats an extreme what if but scientist still dont have powerful enough microscopes to see into an atom.Maybe this universe is inside an atom of a much bigger universe.

as atoms contain many particles we cannot tell what the smallest particle in an atom is.
Universe contains many small things as that of an atom like galaxies, stars, planets, etc. If we see universe outside from it we will see it only as a substance. If there are many such universes they may be constituting a new "UNKNOWN" thing as atoms constitute a new thing.
But by seeing that the universe is expanding we cannot tell that is may be an atom as we know (as an atom never expands) .Instead we can say that it may be a new atom whose properties are unknown to us.

The earth is not an atom instead it is a planetary body that has element that can support life whereas an atom can only help life perform most biological process.
I don't know if my answer hit's the spot.

While this is an old joke, made popular by the movie Animal House , there is really no way to know the answer to this. Just as we have no way of knowing if all of the atoms of our Universe are themselves actually a Universe. I guess one would need to smoke a little weed to find the answer. ::grin::

according to the M-theory our universe is covered by a high dimensional membrane lly there are other parallel universes which when collided with other universe elastic collision takes lly with the atom of a molecule hence according to me this universe is a atom bcoz what if it is found one day that above our universe contains a higher body.

since big and small ae not absolute , you may compare the solar system itself to an atom with so many electrons - the planets representing them.
but really there ae not exactly the electrons alone . The universe can not becalledan atom. But it can be either small or big as neither of them ae absolute characters .

Seeing that the patterns in nature repeat themselves from the microscopic level through the macroscopic, it is an intelligent assertion that the patterns repeat themselves on scales much too large for man to observe.

So nobody can honestly say you are wrong.

of course the answer is 'no'! but do you know what an atom is? everything does have molecules, molecules are made of atoms and atoms are made of protons, neutrons and electrons!!!!!! so keep that in mind!!
