It plays many PS1 and PS2 games, Blu-ray and regular DVDs as well as CDs. It also (if you get the 60Gig) has card reader slots, so you can play photo slideshows.
As far as whether or not it's worth it: On paper it looks good... and with 1080p, it looks good on your TV, too. But when you break it all down, compared to the X-Box 360, it's not a better deal. That's my professional opinion.

No its not worth it all yeah you play fancy blu-ray disc dvds. THE PS3 costs 500-600 dollars. The wii only cost $250 its has internet the only thing it doesnt have is a dvd player. Just get 150 dollar dvd player.
