I live in Virginia, and whenever it's gonna be like, in the 70's in the day time, it's positively cold in the morning, around 7 AM. I hate when it's gonna be hot in the day time, but in the morning, it's really cold. I blew smoke this morning but it's gonna be about 72 today. Why is that?

I live in Virginia too. The answer can be described in two words. Low dewpoint. In the summer, you have temps in the 90s and dewpoints in the 70's, making it muggy overnight. This time of year, the dewpoint is very low, in the 30's and 40's. The sun is the only thing that holds the temp up. The humidity is lower in the daytime and higher at night. It is all about the dewpoint. The higher the dewpoint, the worse it feels to your skin. The dewpoint can also be too low too. Making your skin very dry. I like that because you have a different variety of temps in the same day. If you like warm weather, go out in the middle of the day. If you like cold weather, go out near dusk. You have your choice.

easy ;-)
the general principle is that after the sun has set, the surface of the Earth starts to cool off.
and this goes on until the sun rises.
so the surface of the Earth will be at its coldest just before the sun rises (a phenomenon well known to anyone whose activity implies being outdoors before sunrise).
on top of that, days tend to get hotter when the sky is clear, because the sun can then bring more heat to the surface of the Earth. And for days to be clear you generally need for the previous night to be clear. And when a night is clear, the Earth surface cools of faster (when there is cloud, some of the heat radiation that wants to escape, gets reflected back).
For us guys it makes little difference, for example I wear a suit (and no coat) from about 50 degrees up to 85ish. But for girls I understand that it makes a huge difference, the dress that is perfect for the hotter moments of the day but is definitely too cold for the morning... ;-)

The earth's surface gets heated by sunlight during the day, but it is also constantly cooling off by radiating energy to space. During most of the day, the incoming energy is more than the outgoing energy, so the earth warms. At night, there is no incoming sunlight to heat the ground, so it cools off. Thus, reason (1):The longer nights in the winter mean that the ground has more time to cool off.
In addition, moist air changes temperature more slowly than dry air (It takes more energy to heat the water vapor). Thus, reason (2): The dewpoints are generally much lower in the winter than in the summer (I won't go into why here.), so the air can change temperature (warm and cool) much faster than when there is more water vapor in the air.
