depends on the plant

I have several house plants and I can tell you now it depends on location: what room? How close to the register(heat)? What window(north ;south-ETC...) What type of plant?
I am experienced so for me it is easy to tell. I just stick my finger in the dirt about to the second knuckle; if is comes out wet you are OK; if it is dry? Water!
I have found a lot of CHEATERS on the market lately. Even Wal-Marts has them! They are( for the most part) decorative and you shove them into the soil. When your plants need water they "tell" you by turning color.
Of course the how much part can be tricky.I personally like putting the plants in the tub (or shower) and letting it rain on them until they are soaked. If you don't have a shower, put them in the tub or sink and make "rain" yourself! What ever you do remember: they should stay there for a while(about a half an hour or more) so they can completely drain off the excess water.
Too much water is NOT good for your plants! THEY WILL ROT!!!
The most important thing to remember? JUST LOVE 'EM! If you love them you will notice if something is wrong and good old fashioned common sense will tell you what to do. If you need more help sometimes you can call a nursery and ask general questions.Wal- Marts(yea, I know) usually has a good bunch of "FLOWER KEEPERS" who will help you in any way they can.
If you need to you can email me. I would be glad to help you in any way I can.

I water my plants 1 time a week, usually Saturday. But then 1 time a month I also feed my plants. And once every 2 months I set the plant in the sink or the tub and throughly drench them then let them sit for about an hour to allow the run off time to run out of the plant. I hope this helps..
Happy Holidays~

That completely depends on the plant. Some need to be watered at least once a week, others can go once a month or less.
