my friend just downed 40 nyquil in an attempt to kill herself-will this kill her?

Take your friend to the E.R. with this information or call 911 and give them this info.

1-800-222-1222 this is the number to the poison control center. They can tell you absolutely if your "friend" is in danger. Your "friend" needs help from a professional.
