What does ACIDOPHILUS DO inside us?
I also would like to know if the chewables have the "enteric" coating. Do chewables make it past the stomach acids--into intestines--? Please elaborate.

I asked specifically about the chewables please

Acidophilus is a great, natural probiotic. The way that it actually works is that certain substances which sour, such as active cultured yogurt, buttermilk and certain cheeses, contain Lactobacillus acidophilus that enhance digestion and elimination by effectively digesting proteins in the bowel. Acidophilus also helps to detoxify harmful bacteria by helping to restore friendly bacteria that keep certain microorganisms in check. That's the "how" in the best terms that I can use to describe it. Please visit the website below to read more on the answer to whether the bacteria pass the stomach acids. The answer is yes they do. The website reads, "Surviving the Stomach -
Adding to the false-label-claim hazard is the fact that stomach acid destroys many probiotics before they reach the intestines, which is why some probiotic products must be taken in the morning when stomach acid levels are lowest. In response, some companies are developing new pill-coating methods to keep probiotics intact and alive as they pass through stomach acids." Hope this information answers your questions! They were good questions! :-)
