My son is 15 weeks and has a cold for the second time. His symptoms are that he has a little cough and his nose is stuffed up. He is having a hard time breathing and I wanted to know if anyone had any idea if there is a medicine I can give him to clear him up so he can breathe when he eats and sleeps? I use the baby tylenol but that doesnt really clear his nose up. I feel so bad for him!

The best think you could do is what everyone is saying, which is to use saline drops and an aspirator to remove mucus from his nose and a humidifier. He will also rest more comfortably if he's in an upright position. Put him in his carseat. These things should help until his cold goes away. If you can hear him wheezing and it's coming from his chest, you should take him to the doctor because it could be RSV. Babies that are premature and under 4 months have the highest risk. It starts out like a regular cold and then they start wheezing badly. It can be really serious so if he has any of those symptoms take him to the doctor a.s.a.p.Or it could be asthma. Good Luck!!!

Call the doctor and ask about meds, they can tell you over the phone. They may want to see him if he is having a hard time breathing. DO NOT take dosing advice from someone here. We do not know how much your child weighs or anything else about him!

Elevate the head of his crib, use a humidifier when he sleeps, suction out his nose with one of those bulb-things, make sure he gets plenty of fluids, sit in a steamy bathroom with him, apply warm, wet facecloths to his face to help drain his nose and then use the nose-thing again.

Watch his temperature.

People lived for millions of years without cold medicine and if it is just a cold he should be fine.

As for baby Tylenol, you should not be giving it to him unless he is in pain and your doctor has told you how much to give. The ingredient in Tylenol has been linked to liver damage in cases where it was used for too long a period or too much was used.

You can try Baby Vick's Vapor Rub, just make sure it's for babies. It's not too strong but strong enough for them. Take him a warm bath and then put the vapor rub on his chest and a little on his back and cover him up. Try not to take him out of the house and keep him warm. This should clear up his nose. If not try calling his physician and letting him know that Tylenol doesn't work. You might have to end up taking him to the doctor though. My baby boy get's sick all the time and Tylenol doensn't do anything!

Get the Little Noses saline spray and one of thoses "nose sucker " things, The saline will help dry up the nose and the sucker will remove the excess (babies hate this) Also try rolling up a towel and placing under the crib mattress so it is elevated to 40 degree angle to help nose drain easier.

You can do one of two things...go into the bathroom and run the shower really hot so he is breathing the steam. Or get a humidifier and plug it in at night. Vicks makes a great one.

This young, it is not recommended that you give medicine. Use saline drops for his nose, that works great. Also use a humidifier in the room where he sleeps. If that doesn't work, call his ped.

At 15 weeks I would not give him anything my doctor didn't tell me to give. Call the doctor.

Give your doctor a call, it will probably recommend something like pedicare, and can tell you exactly how much to give
