Check out give.org for US and Canada national charities. Try local churches for donations of dinners, clothing, and food - this time of year they are gearing up to help the needy during the holiday season. Toys for Tots can help provide gifts. Consider opening your home and sharing a meal - which is one of the most meaningful things you could probably do. There are so many options - but start with the local religious community since giving at Christmas time is truly their thing.

Find out where you local salvation army is, chances are they are somewhere close. I would agree with checking with the local Church's and toys for tots but I would also check with you local police department and Sheriff's department. Sometimes they go out on there own and have there own program.

Even if they don't they should be able to point you in the right direction if nothing else. Make a call to the local Department of Family and Children Services. No need to give any details you could just asked the same questions. They tend to get involved with collecting toys around Christmas and sometimes they implement programs such as "Adopt a Family"
