It was romantic war film during the 50/s in colour, involving a soldier and a girl. During the story they exchanged letters and at the end of the film he was I think reading one of the letters and he was shot. As he fell he dropped the letter into a river that he knew flowed past the girls home. In vain he tried to retrieve the letter. The final scene was of the girl finding the letter and knowing that he had died.
