I laid some new turf in the summer and the foxes had a field day digging it up. I am just about to get my lawn re-turfed and want to deter the foxes digging it up again. Any ideas or product recommendations would be much appreciated

There is this product called the Scarecrow. It uses motion as a detector, and sprays water in the direction to scare off the fox naturally. It really does work. It is $89, but it might be worth it not to re-turf your lawn all the time!

The product can be found here:

Here's a news article about it:

The foxes were looking for chafer grubs, white c-shaped curled up caterpiller-like creatures, which live on grass roots usually causing no damage to the lawn. Badgers also enjoy these morsels with similar devastating results. Often Jackdaws join the party1

Unfortunately it is a little late for treatment this year. The trick is to remove the grubs by biological control using pathogenic nematodes (Heterorhabditis or Steinernema species). A good garden centre should supply these. Read the instructions on the box for time of application and only buy the product WHEN it is to be applied - remember you are using living organisms. Treatment for a decent size lawn may be from £10 to £20.

I am surprised at how soon these grubs infested your newly laid turf. Were they present before purchase? I would be inclined to use another supplier if re-turfing is required.

I also have a wooded backyard and for 2 years I had foxes den in my backyard and carry domestic dogs. We used to observe the domestic dogs fooling around the hollow as we sat on the breakfast table. a chum gave us a Jack Russel terrier and that ended the foxes digging their den in my backyard. i think she ran them off. I enjoyed watching them. They have been lovable. i don't recognize the place you reside yet i might say you have foxes digging on your backyard.
