This is simply the best movie ever made, containing all the elements a perfect movie should, even considering that every person has a right to his/her opinion. The soundtrack is amazing, the scenes are ingenious and the story is simply excellent! This is a story about a Scotsman named William Wallace (Mel Gibson) and his fight for the freedom of the Scottish people, from the oppression of the English ruler-ship. After seeing the death of his wife at the hands of an English nobleman, William Wallace (Mel Gibson) sets out on a quest for vengeance that quickly turns into a crusade for freedom for the entire "country". The extreme violence as well as the human compassion in this movie are overwhelming in its brilliancy.

It's a very good movie, but historically incorrect on SO many levels.
It completely ignores the fact that most wars between England and Scotland were in fact between Protestants and Catholics, since the English government were Protestant and the people of Scotland (and Ireland) were predominantly Catholic. Scottish clans who were Protestant usually fought on the side of the government.
Also I dislike the fact that the film puts a slur on the name of Robert The Bruce who is a real Scottish hero and who wasn't even present at the battle during which, in the film he fights on the side of the English King.
If you can put fact to one side though, it makes for very enjoyable viewing and makes anyone with even a drop of Scottish blood in them feel proud and patriotic.

It was a good action movie with fantastic battle scenes. However. total fiction starring an actor, Mel Gibson, who seems anti British in all his so called 'Historic Movies'.

Braveheart is an instant classic. I love the Dark Ages, and
the concept that comes with it. Great film.

I thought it was great when I saw it in the cinema. When the Irish switched sides and joined the Scots, there was a roar in the theatre that I've never heard before or since.
Since then, I feel it doesn't stand up to repeat viewing. It's a very long, bloody, depressing movie. I don't watch it very often now.

To be honest i thought that is was a grossly inaccurate portrayal of anything, people, place, politics of the time and historical fact. I always find it sad that a film like this which is a good story is portrayed as anything else than that, a good story.
What really happened was far more interesting but sadly not that interesting enough for Hollywood.
