I have a 10 month old. I am 27 and 172 lbs. What happened to me, I was breastfeeding and losing weight. I got to where I only needed to lose 5 more lbs. to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Then my daughter started eating baby food and less milk. I started gaining weight because I didn't know that I could diet. Then I called my lactation consultant and she said that I could diet, I just had to make sure that I did eat and not starve myself. (By the way I had gained up to 181 lbs. yuck!) So I went on a low carb diet, low sugar diet. I drink a lot of water and coffee. Most importantly, every morning I eat an Egg Beaters Omelet with cheese and 2 pieces of fried bologna. Then I snack around for lunch and dinner I have some kind of meat and veggies. No potatoes whatsoever. A piece of bread every now and then. I also try to exercise if I can. I have lost 9 lbs. so far. The good thing about this diet is you lose your weight slowly and keep if off. Unlike the other diets where you lose fast and gain back more. Also, most of the books that I have read say to give yourself at least 2 years to lose all of the weight. The What To Expect When Expecting book says that breastfeeding mothers will "gradually" lose their weight, and bottle feeding mothers have to work really hard at losing their weight. Don't freak out. You first have to get comfortable with your new weight before you can start losing. If you are depressed about your "baby" weight then you are never going to lose it. Just start thinking it is all worth it. The weight is nothing compared to that bundle of joy you get to hold in your arms everyday.

With my first two kids I DID lose the weight after a couple months but not this time. My son will be 4 months old on the 7th of Dec. and I still can't get rid of the last 10 lbs but I totally know it's my fault. I know it's normal to be hungry a lot when you're breastfeeding but I am eating more than I did when I was pregnant!! I bet if we'd just start snacking on more healthy stuff then maybe it would slowly come off. But maybe you're already doing that. Good luck though and congrats on feeding your baby for so long!

It takes more than just breast feeding. YOu have to eat right and exercise too. Breast feeding burns a lot of calories a day, but if you're taking in more than you're using, of course you wont lose the weight.

Get a jogging stroller and take nice long walks. Eat only three meals, and three good for you meals. Dont snack, and dont eat processed good. If you can avoid sitting and laying, do so. Dont stay home, get out, Even if its just out in the yard.

You have to be active, and avoid eating more than you need. Breastfeeding helps an insane ammount to lose weight, but its not a magical cure all for weight loss, you cant just sit around and eat whatever whenever and expect to lose weight.

Some women have a much harder time than others, it doesnt mean theres something wrong with you, it just means you need to be more active and eat less.

You'll do it. It takes time and commitment is all.

I lose a little weight while breastfeeding, but I lose most of my pregnancy weight after I wean the baby. While breastfeeding your body does hold onto a little extra fat so that if you were to starve for some reason, your body will have those fat stores to feed your baby.

Keep breastfeeding and when it is time to wean your baby, I bet the weight will come right off because you have breastfed for this long. You are doing a great job.

My favorite web sites are

www.breastfeeding.com (they have great message boards of mothers who breastfeed too)

and www.kellymom.com has great information anytime I have a question.

eat a lot less (yet sensibly) exercising extra (yet sensibly) do not provide up (ever) Drink various fluids (a minimum of four pints an afternoon) there'll come a level (in case you try this properly) once you'll experience like you do not have any potential... like you're so susceptible you're very almost shaking. it really is the point once you've stopped burning carbs and also you're taking off to burn fat... it takes an afternoon or 2 on your body to modify over to metabolising fat and through that era some human beings a minimum of expertise really undesirable and resources up. keep on with it... once you're through that era you receives actual weight-loss quite than basically dropping water and reserve carbs. good success... you are able to do it!

I went through the same thing, kind of.... i lost all my baby weight in 2 weeks and then gained it all back in about 6 months. it turns out I have a thyroid disease very common to new mothers. Maybe you should talk to your doctor/midwife about it and see what they say. a simple blood test can determine if you have a problem or if your body is just being stubborn.
it sounds like you are being very healthy, though, which is great for you and your baby.

I never lost weight while breastfeeding. I always lost it after I would stop breast feeding. I even went to the gym and didnt lose. So I just dont even think about losing any until Im going to wean the baby.

It may also depend on how much extra weight you gained while pg. If you have a thyroid issue, that could be contributing to the weight gain completely unrelated to nursing. Talk to your doctor.

Green tea burns calories, btw. :) Good luck!

you do not lose your weight naturellly and it is not just breast feeding you have to excercise and all breastfeeding does is excercise the muscles so that when you excercise it is easier to work out you also have to eat right and do the righ things i mean just sitting around and breastfeeding is not going to work i would not eat after 8.00 in the evening and no icecream and eat stuff besides carbs and i would walk in the 30 minutes to an hour and in the evening and also maybe excercise insides pushups situps and all no sodas and if you are dedicated i believe that you will lose wight in no time and yu should stop gaining and all.
