I think there are a lot of qualities you need, but the most important is probably man-management skills. You've got to have the ability to deal with an entire squad, motivate the players to perform, get everything out of the players, and also find a way to keep players happy without making them complacent. Other than that, tactical know-how is important but I also think it's overrated. At the end of the day, it's the players on the pitch, not the formation, that will win you games.
I also think you need a lot of determination and patience. From the coaches' biographies that I've read, coaching requires a lot of time and work - on the pitch, at the computer, and in front of the media.
The ability to withstand pressure is also tremendously important. Most coaches will experience a patch, at some point, where the results and luck have left them - it's at that point that your character and mettle is tested.

Knowledge of the fundamentals of the game.

Knowledge of the fundamental values of a good athlete: discipline, hard work.

Leadership skills: the ability command respect without excessive use of power.

Communication skills: the ability to express all these things to young people so that the means and the goals are clear.

Management skills: the ability to deal with changes in circumstances, so that the best outcome can be acheived (includes management of the athletes' attitudes and needs).

It has to be long enough to stretch out on but the arms can't be too high so that you can't rest your head on them. I prefer two cushions rather than 3. Nice soft but firm cushions help.
