Drum Maojors don't actually use those silly batons. They just get in the way. That is if you're talking about the huge cumbersome metal ones with all the decoration and tassels and such. The small white ones are only used by conductors during concerts. And they are very VERY expensive.

I used to use on of those-heavy and cumberson is right!
For a child-I'd go to a discount sore and buy the cheap wooden handled toilet plunger and a playball about the size of the plunger.Glue the ball to the inside of the plunger with a silicon based glue-like "Goop" or bathtub caulk, and spray the whole thing silver. If you can swing it,get some curtain tye backs with tassels in the same colors as the uniform, and tie them to the baton just below the ball.Good Luck!

You could get a thick dowel and wrap it in silver tape, and put masking tape, black tape, or tassels (from a fabric or dollar store, or homemade) on the ends.
