Seriously. Does anybody know? (And yes I'm wearing underwear just in case you're wondering. LOL)

Early people began to wrap leaves, furs, and skins around their waists and between their legs to stay warm, to keep off bugs, and to protect themselves. Fancier versions were designed to attract the opposite sex. Peoples who evolved on separate continents, all invented some form of the loincloth as underwear. It was worn by both the powerful and powerless.

At many times throughout history, people became dissatisfied with the human shape, and sought to change it to a more "idealized" form. About 2000 B.C., in early Crete, depictions of the Snake Goddess shows her wearing an outfit that belted in the waist, and made her breasts protrude. In Victorian times, corsets whittled waists for both men and women. Until laces were later shifted to the front - it was impossible for anyone to lace up without assistance.

Diaper – from the Green “diapros” or “pure white” is a new type of white silk produced in Byzantium around 1100 B.C. The name clicks and thus any white cloth is called diaper from white table linens to cheap cotton fabric used for baby’s breeches.

Slops were the streamlined version of the loincloth or diaper breeches made of linen that every nobleman wore under his calf-length tunic in the 13th century. Slops protect the skin from the harsh texture of clothes and protect clothes from a dirty body.

Underwear was only worn by the wealthiest of nobles. With the introduction of linen, lingerie elitism made way for mass under-wearing. In turn, the life expectancy of peasants skyrocketed as they became significantly less prone to bacterial disease and infection. Of course the aristocracy swiftly drove underwear to new more expensive heights with corsets and bloomers of richer material.
There is an advantage to wearing no underwear at all; the feeling of true freedom that it brings.

But there are also disadvantages such as a lack of protection from rubbing against clothes (wool for example), hygiene problems especially on hot days, no shield for your trousers against staining, no guard against showing “plumbers crack”, and you have be extra careful when operating a zipper.

Because underwear helps keep a person feeling dry and comfortable. It's comfortable to have a soft material between you and a pair of jeans that rub. It also helps absorb odors. So you don't stick out others around you. Support for men.

I've gone with out before and it is kind of painful, the rubbing of the zipper on your flesh. And any larger chested woman should wear a bra!

Probably because a cotton panty feels better in that area than denim does.
