It is absolutely not advised to lie on your back for for over five minutes if you are over four months pregnant. The reasoning behind this is that by then, your child is larger and so is your uterus. The weight from this can press on a vein, restricting blood to the baby. If you must lie on your back, prop yourself up with a lot of pillows, as that helps.

It doesn't hurt the baby to lay on your back, but they say not to do it for long periods of time because the weight of the baby and such presses on a main artery (vena cava) and it reduces the amount of oxygen by squishing the blood flow. It can make you feel a little dizzy when you get up after laying on your back, so be sure to rise slowly after doing so.

No, your baby is not affected by lying on your back. The problems may occur with you. Lying on your back may cause the pressure of your uterus to cause problems with breathing and exerting pressure on your aorta - a major blood vessel. Early in the pregnancy the risk is not as great, but by the time you are about 20 weeks, you will want to stick to side sleeping. Sleeping on your left is beneficial as it has been shown to improve blood circulation and aids in waste elimination. However, it is very important to get a good rest and sleeping on your right side or even upright in a chair are fine as well.

It is strongly not advised for pregnant women to lay on their backs after so many months of being pregnant. The reason being is that you are cutting off oxygen to the baby. Why I don't know but it is true. I provided the link for where I found this out at.

No it doesnt hurt the baby but depending on how far you are from giving birth, you should not lay on your back cause the weight of the baby presses on your vital organs like kidneys and more so I would not recomend it.

No. You are fine to lay on your back. It isn't advised to do so for long periods of time after your 16th week though. If it is uncomfortable for you or if the baby becomes uncomfortable you will know. The best way to lay is on your left side.

It is not the best position because your womb is pressing the arteries and veins which feed the baby, so you can lay on your back but not for long periods, the best is on your side....better the left one
