From my perspective, sometimes to feel guilt is all right. In some therapies, there is no guilt, if someone feels guilty the therapist may say is not okay to feel not guilty, to live according to free will, this is not always correct. In Religion there is the opposite extreme, there is guilt in many "sins" or actions.
Guilt allow us to be cautious, to prevent disaster, imagine a criminal that never felt guilt?, imagine a kid that never felt guilt when he in purpose broke a glass? this society would be a mess without rules, without that conscience, because guilt deals with the inner self, with the conscience of the person, and in some ways is a "test" to know whats wrong and what is right.
There is a scrupulous conscience, that thinks anything he or she does is guilt, this is not okay either, to feel guilt when there is no real cause, for instance, my friend did something bad and I feel guilt for his actions, well this is not correct, everyone should be responsible for his or her own actions, many people feel guilty when someone dies, and in many cases is not their fault, it something they couldn´t prevent at that time, so we need to accept our own limitations and don´t feel like super heroes where anyone can controll anything.
Guilt can help humans to be aware of danger, in many situations, real danger I mean, not the one someone has fantasies in his or her own mind...
I think guilt in the correct situations help the life experience to be a better human being, and to learn from mistakes. Without guilt, without remorse we wouldnt be better, we wouldnt recognize whats wrong and whats right.

There is guilt for certain things but I don't go around feeling guilty about every thing. That would be a waste of time considering that you can't change the past, you can only change your behavior in the future.
