i've been told there is a significant amount of energy being produced and the initial high cost could be paid off fairly quickly by selling the excess power back to the power company...any thoughts?

Most commercially available wind turbines require winds at 25 -30 mph before they become efficient, but a company just came out with a new turbine that becomes efficient at lower wind speeds. I can't find the article in Popular science right off hand, but it is in there somewhere.

depends on how windy it is where you live and the size of the generator you install
